Energy Storage Solutions (ESS)

An Energy Storage System (ESS) is a specific type of power system that integrates a power grid connection with a Victron Inverter/Charger, GX device and battery system. It stores solar energy into your battery during the day, for use later on when the sun stops shining.

Why choose an Victron ESS system?

Imagine having an all singing all dancing Solar PV system with battery storage but then your mains grid connection fails?

In the event of having an AC Solar PV system your whole site and Solar system will shut down due to loss of grid connection. Yes, if you have a hybrid inverter with an EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function you could provide limited power from your battery bank, but this would require you unplugging existing cables and re-routing etc.

What if you had an ESS system?

A Victron ESS system turns everything on its head when it comes to solar PV generation and battery storage/management.

Now! you would have a system that would not rely on a fixed permanent grid connection and that can supply power to the whole site!

Where the Victron ESS system comes into its own is how the whole design and installation process changes.

From the initial mains entering the building the supply is fed direct (via mains switch) to the ESS system, from here the whole site runs direct from battery storage with Solar PV/Wind providing the power to feed the battery. In the event of loss of Solar/Wind or battery charge status the system then calls upon power from the main grid (this can also be connected to a backup generator) thus resulting in minimal grid dependency.

Were the system outperforming (off the shelf) AC inverters being the simple fact that each installation is designed and installed bespoke to the building power requirements now and in the future.

DNO (Distribution Network Operator)

Normal AC Solar PV systems are capped in relation to Solar panel generation and battery storage/discharge (due to the size of the inverter) An Victron ESS system operates on the DC side and thus has no limitation on the solar generation or battery storage allowing for a single or three phase supply from 50 amps per phase upwards.

This results in a bespoke system designed and installed with the ability to add on solar PV generation at any time and additional battery storage thus reducing the dependency of grid supply.
